Nina’s Temporary Imaginary Life is a personal transmedia project that reimagines memory, reality, and fiction through a fully illustrated universe.
Born as a playful escape during quarantine, the project blurs the lines between lived experience and imagination. It follows allegorical characters — all based on real people, except Johann the Black Cat (based on a real black cat) — navigating everyday life in a parallel world.
The universe unfolded across multiple formats: An Instagram profile documenting the characters’ daily lives. An illustration book capturing their whimsical existence. Physical merchandise and postcards — including the mailing of 256 illustrated Christmas postcards from the NTIL universe to people around the world during lockdown, creating real-world interactions between Johann and random recipients. Photographs integrated into the project include real moments of dissociation and memory, such as an ambulance interior during a COVID episode, layered with scanned analog images from past years — stitching together fragmented timelines into a cohesive imagined life.
